NOTE: Technicolor is the modem manufacture that sells it's modems to Comcast, Cox, Century Link, or any other ISP. ISP will rebrand the Technicolor modem router.
The setup of ibi may not be successful or result in periodic "device offline" status when connected to Comcast Xfinity routers until the ibi firmware has been updated to 5.6.1-102 or higher. To ensure a successful over the air firmware update, follow the steps listed below.
Option #1 - Wait for Firmware Update
- Ensure ibi remains powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.
- Disable auto backups on all mobile devices.
- Disable Social Media and Cloud imports if they have been enabled already.
- The ibi firmware update should occur within a few hours after setup, reboot and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
- Check the firmware version of ibi using the Web or Mobile App. For instructions, please refer to How do I check ibi firmware version?
Option #2 - Connect to a Different Wi-Fi Network
- Connect and setup ibi using a different Wi-Fi network or mobile hot spot.
- Disable auto-backup on all mobile devices.
- Disable Social Media and Cloud imports if they have been enabled already.
- The ibi firmware update should occur within a few hours after setup, reboot and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
- Check the firmware version of ibi using the Web or Mobile App. For instructions, please refer to How do I check ibi firmware version?
- Power off ibi and connect to the Comcast Xfinity router.
Option #3 - Change Wi-Fi Channel Bandwidth
Change the Wi-Fi Channel Bandwidth setting to 20 to lessen the occurrence of Wi-Fi disconnects long enough to receive the firmware update.
- Open a web browser and login to your Comcast Xfinity Router.
The default user name should be Admin at http://192.168.100.1 or the admin interface of http://10.0.0.1
Please refer to the Comcast Infinity User Manuals for more detailed instructions if the above settings are not accurate for your environment. - Navigate to Gateway -> Connection -> Wi-Fi
- Configure 2.4GHz Band
- Click "EDIT" next to the 2.4GHz Band
- Set the value of Channel Bandwidth to 20 and Click "Save Changes"
Configure 5GHz Band- Click "EDIT" next to the 5GHz Band
- Set the value of Channel Bandwidth to 20 and Click "Save Changes"

- Configure 2.4GHz Band
- Disable auto-backup on all mobile devices.
- Disable Social Media and Cloud imports if they have been enabled already.
- The ibi firmware update should occur within a few hours after setup, reboot and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
- Check the firmware version of ibi using the Web or Mobile App. For instructions, please refer to How do I check ibi firmware version?
- Reset the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Channel Bandwidth bands back to their original settings.
